Cuenca is just but one of many Spanish cities where the there is a symbiotic relationship between old and new. A historical centre still functions as home to the local community that strains not to be overwhelmed by the swell of tourism. Beyond that, often dense, area of narrow streets, a modern city sprawls outward from the old stones.
